Steeped Lemonade

The secret to the intense, delicious flavour of this refreshing drink is the lemon and lime zest.

Steeped Lemonade


  • 8 lemons, washed
  • 4 limes, washed
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 8 cups water
  • carbonated water


  1. Remove zest from lemons and limes and place in resealable bag along with the sugar. Seal and leave for a minimum of 2 hours (I leave mine overnight).
  2. Juice all lemons and limes, reserve liquid & place in refrigerator.
  3. In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water to a boil. Remove from heat and pour in the contents of the resealable bag. Rinse bag with 1/2 cup cold water and add to pot. Allow to steep for 30 minutes. Strain liquid. Add lemon and lime juice and stir. Place in refrigerator until chilled.
  4. To serve: fill glass halfway with ice, pour lemonade to 3/4 full and top up with carbonated water. Makes 8 cups
